hoarsedoctor was Coleman J. Connolly, Jr., M.D. He spent his childhood ill with obstruction of his larynx and a tracheostomy until age 16. Although he missed most of gradeschool he became a Medical Doctor in 6 years after highschool and later a Chest Surgeon in Saint Paul, MN. He introduced himself to his patients as "the hoarse doctor" because his voice was damaged in childhood. This blog is to memorialize Coleman and his wife Peggy and their accomplishments.
Career
When starting his private practice of surgery in Saint Paul, MN he lived and worked at Anoka State Hospital with Peggy and young children. Anoka housed the criminally insane there and many patients had Tuberculosis. This was the pre-antituberculosis drug and pre-antipsychotic drug era. Many patients required surgery for TB and many had mental illness symptoms that were out of control. It was at Anoka State Hospital that he performed surgeries referred to in his list of publications. He practiced for 40 years at Lowry Medical Arts, died in 1996 of B-cell Lymphoma.

Owen H. Wangensteen Rejection
Coleman J. Connolly published "Hernia Due to Non-Penetrating Trauma" in Journal of Armed Forces Med. Dept. in August 1955. He was drafted into the Korean War although 4F for his tracheal problems because he was a physician. This article was rejected for publication in the journal Surgery by Owen H. Wangensteen for unclear reasons as there is only a handwritten "sorry". More on Wangensteen at http://wangensteen.lib.umn.edu/benefactor.
